What to Bring for Your Kona Ocean Tour

Pack light. We've got most of it covered.
Preparing for your ocean adventure in Kona? Whether you're joining our manta ray night snorkel, Hawaiian cultural paddle, or guided kayak tour, here’s exactly what to bring and wear for a smooth, stress-free experience.

What We Provide on Your Kona Tour

You don't need to bring much because we provide the essentials:

  • Masks and snorkels
  • Wetsuit tops (for manta tour)
  • Flotation devices and ankle floats
  • Life jackets (available on request for adults, mandatory for guests under 12)
  • Underwater viewing boxes (for Hawaiian Cultural Paddle)
  • Dry storage box for your valuables, phone, and keys
  • Refreshments and snacks (for Hawaiian Cultural Paddle)

What You Should Bring

For All Tours:

  • Towel – You'll want one to dry off afterward
  • Reef-safe mineral sunscreen – Chemicals in many sunscreens harm coral and marine life, which is why Hawaiʻi banned them. Look for zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. It's the law on the Big Island, and it's the right thing to do. You can find it at any store on the island.
  • Swimsuit – Wear it under your clothes so you're ready to go
  • Water bottle – We provide refreshments, but extra hydration is always good
  • Underwater camera or GoPro (optional)

What to Wear

Hawaiian Cultural Paddle (Morning)

  • Swimsuit under your clothes
  • Hat for sun protection
  • Water shoes or sandals with straps
  • Light, sun-protective clothing

We're on the water for 2 hours, so dress for the sun.

Manta Ray Night Snorkel

  • Swimsuit
  • Light layers for after – You'll be wet and it cools down at night
  • Flip-flops or sandals are fine (you'll take them off before getting in the canoe)

Kayak Tour

  • Swimsuit under your clothes
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Water shoes or sandals with straps
  • Sun-protective clothing

What NOT to Bring

  • Large bags or backpacks – We have limited storage space on the canoe. Leave bulky items at your accommodation.
  • Valuables you're worried about – We have a dry box, but we recommend leaving expensive jewelry and unnecessary items behind.
  • Fins – Strictly prohibited on all tours.
  • Full-face snorkel masks – Strictly prohibited on all tours.
  • Aerosol sunscreen – Sprays are hard to control and pollute the sand and water.

Storage on the Canoe

We have a dry storage box on board for:

  • Car keys
  • Cell phones
  • Wallets
  • Towels
  • Small personal items

We do NOT have room for large bags, backpacks, or bulky items. Please leave those in your car or at your accommodation.

Important: We do not recommend leaving valuable items in your vehicle while on our tour. The dry box on the canoe is a safer option for keys, phones, and wallets.
